- Rhineland was apart of the Prussian Rhine province in the early 1800s.
- Westphalia was given to the Kingdom of Prussia after the Congress of Vienna also in the early 1800s.
- In 1947 the state was established with the two provinces along with the former state of Lippe.
- Majority of citizens are Roman Catholic(about 42%).
- Home of the annual GamesCon which is the second largest gaming convention in the world.
- Much countryside is committed to gardens, orchards, and commercial farmland.
